    The 2008 Angels in Adoption Honors

    On September 16, 2008, in Washington, D.C., 181 ‘Angels in Adoption’ honors were given out by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. The nationally-recognised honor is handed out by the Institute after congressional members choose those recipients who they feel have helped foster and orphan children worldwide. One of this year’s recipients of the honor was Mary Beth Bruder, a mother to four adopted daughters from China. Ms. Bruder, from Connecticut, is a champion for adoptions of children with special needs and looks forward to continuing her work in this area. Another note of achievement: Ms. Bruder is a single mother to her four daughters! This is great inspiration for any single parents looking at adoption. Another couple honored for their efforts were David and Christine Skinner, of Zearing, Iowa. Adoptive parents to a daughter from Guatemala, the Skinners worked tirelessly to help locate and find adoption homes for 35 Guatemalan children “lost” due to bureaucratic red tape and disorganization after an orphanage was raided in 2007. Other recipients of the honors were named from all 50 of the United States. We give thanks to all of the recipients for doing such noble and rewarding work on behalf of children everywhere.

Even when you’ve done research, read books, talked to others, and been told time and time again to “be patient”, it doesn’t make the waiting anything less than tedious, frustrating, and even painful.
